The short story "A Time to be Stubborn" by Akorfa Dawson (link in bio) is about a young girl, married off to a man older than her, who is discovering how to free herself from the subtle shackles in her life just as Ghana attains independence from colonial rule.
It is set in the years leading up to independence in Ghana - from 1953 to 1957 - and inspired by a video of the March 1957 Independence Gala in Accra.
It was the 3rd Place Winning Entry of the #imaginingEarlyAccra competition (adult category).

Slide 1: The various uses of Accra Town Hall at different points in time.
Slide 2: The building in its use as Parliament House depicted on a 1965 5 Cedi Note.
